財團法人生技醫療科技政策研究中心評審總召集人陳維昭表示，「國家生技醫療品質獎」自1998年創辦以來，每年持續評選出最新全國第一、亞洲第一、全球第一的優秀典範，成為健康產業的標竿。」評審團亦表示在藥品類評選中，更是以多國、多中心臨床研究的驗證結果為依據，才能受到國家生技醫療品質獎之肯定。
超越治療：基因療法翻轉生命歷程
「國家生技醫療品質獎」的評選標準涵蓋創新技術專利、療效與安全性、實用效益及經濟效益等四大審查面向及十二項指標，並成為品質卓越的象徵。今年在所有優秀的認證藥品中，以基因療法、癌症與罕見疾病的臨床實用效益最為突出。諾華此次獲得金獎的基因療法是全球首個獲核准上市用於治療脊髓性肌肉萎縮症（SMA）的基因療法。
基因療法顛覆了傳統需長期甚至終身服藥的治療模式，著眼於解決疾病的根本原因，翻轉了患者的生命歷程。若配合透過新生兒篩檢進行更早期階段的診斷與介入，延續SMA患者的生命與提升生活品質，更有機會幫助孩童擁有正常社交生活、完成教育，並且大幅減輕家庭和社會的長期負擔。
