國民健康署103年青少年吸菸行為調查結果顯示，高中職、國中學生吸菸率逐年下降，但二手菸暴露問題仍待解決。分析發現，無論國中、高中職學校二手菸最主要來源為吸菸同學，其次為其他校外人士、再其次為校內行政人員，顯示各級學校仍有努力空間。
相較往年調查結果，青少年家庭二手菸暴露率已有改善，但調查結果顯示，父親教育程度較低者，其子女家庭二手菸暴露狀況較嚴重，無論國中、高中職皆高達5成。
根據Semple等人103年刊登於菸草控制(Tobacco Control)期刊的研究報告指出，吸菸者家中的細懸浮微粒(PM2.5)濃度，是非吸菸者家中的10倍。等同於居住在一個霾害嚴重的城市1。國民健康署署長邱淑媞表示，我國有3成國、高中職學生被迫生活在菸害環境中，為了讓孩子有好的健康起點，家人戒菸才能保護青少年免於二手菸害。
國民健康署於101年3月1日推出二代戒菸補助，有意願戒菸可以撥打免費戒菸專線(0800-636363)，由具備心理輔導、諮商、社會工作等專業人員，透過電話的便利及私密性，陪伴吸菸者渡過戒菸的困難；亦可參加各縣市衛生局(所)或醫療院所辦理的戒菸班，協助成功戒菸。
