晚婚、晚生已成為趨勢，然而隨著生育年齡不斷往後退，也造成不孕的隱憂。華育生殖醫學中心院長兼亞太生育健康學會理事長徐明義醫師長期關注少子化危機，他指出台灣的生育率幾乎是全球最低，人口持續負成長使「台灣正在消失」。除了不生，不孕也是造成此現象的原因之一。
年齡是生育力最大的殺手
隨著社會型態轉變，越來越多優秀女性擔任職場要職，在追求個人成就的同時，也將生育計劃推遲到次要位置。然而，隨著年齡增長，卵巢功能不可逆地衰退，許多優秀女性想要生育時發現竟然無比困難。
徐醫師進一步說明：「女生這輩子擁有的卵子數量，還在媽媽肚子裡的胚胎時就已經決定，根據統計，30歲的女性卵子儲備僅剩12%，40歲更只剩3%。」隨著年紀增加，卵子品質也會隨之下降，生活作息不正常、壓力也會加劇影響，導致許多女生30歲出頭就已經沒有健康的卵子了。

怎麼知道卵子數量、卵巢功能呢？AMH抗穆勒氏管荷爾蒙（Anti-mullerian Hormone ）是近年來最可信賴的卵巢的功能指標。AMH由卵巢內尚未成熟的中小型濾泡上顆粒細胞所分泌，當AMH的水平越高，代表卵子儲存量較多。徐醫師常提醒25歲以上的女性，每年都應檢測一次AMH，了解自己卵巢健康程度、生殖能力，甚至預測停經年紀，才能在黃金生育期先做好準備。
「卵巢功能會老化，子宮不會。」徐醫師說明，他會建議AMH檢測低於平均值的女性及早考慮凍卵，儲存自己當下最佳的生育力。
透過AMH檢測了解卵巢功能，預測健康狀況
即使尚未有伴侶或暫時沒有懷孕生子的計劃，AMH檢測也能幫助女性了解身體狀況。畢竟，女性的生理健康與荷爾蒙息息相關，而卵巢正是調節女性荷爾蒙的重要器官。AMH 指數介於2至5之間為正常範圍值，數值高於5可能是「多囊性卵巢症候群」，數值低於2則可能有卵巢功能衰退的跡象。卵巢衰退除了影響生育力，也會讓女性提早出現更年期症狀，甚至增加骨質疏鬆、心血管疾病等風險。因此，提早了解卵巢狀況也能讓女生提前因應作出準備。例如調整飲食、增加運動量等。
