每年的 12 月 1 日為世界愛滋病日，全世界各國都在這個時候共同響應防治愛滋病及關懷愛滋患者。但是台灣經過這些年的努力，經檢視成效不彰，台灣已成為亞洲四小龍愛滋感染比率最高的國家，是日韓的 10 倍，且年輕化愈來愈明顯，顯然需要更加努力改進。
世展會特別提醒，全球及台灣年輕的愛滋病患不減反增，截至 10 月底止，台灣愛滋病累計通報人數已達 2 萬 4706 人，其中 20 到 29 歲的愛滋總感染人數比率超過四成，相較於去年同期有上升的趨勢。
衛生署疾病管制局統計發現，國內愛滋感染者年輕化愈來愈明顯，15 至 24 歲年輕人有將近 4600 人，亦即不到 25 歲的年輕人已占了愛滋感染者的二成，新增感染人數占全年通報 3 成，相較去年高出 1.35％，顯示落實年輕學子愛滋防治，是目前刻不容緩的重點工作。
據聯合國統計，全球愛滋感染者已超過 3400 萬人，台灣愛滋感染居亞洲四小龍之冠，是日韓的 10 倍。特別是愛滋感染者年齡層有快速下降趨勢，其中又以年輕族群「男男性行為」逾 6 成最為嚴重，特別是不戴安全套、濫用助性藥物，讓愛滋病（AIDS）快速擴散。
調查也發現，台灣愛滋感染者約每 1 萬人有 10 人感染。在同一計算基準下，日本和韓國只有台灣的 1/10，約每萬人有1人感染，即使與國際城市香港及新加坡來比，台灣的感染率仍比香港約每萬人約 6 人，甚至比新加坡約每萬人約 8 人，都高出許多。
台灣愛滋病患者以往多是施打毒品感染居多，這一、兩年「男男性行為」感染愛滋大幅增多，特別是集中在青少年族群。調查發現，透過網路尋找性伴侶，且每周逾一次性行為的男男性行為者，有 1 成 2 為愛滋感染者，但僅 5 成 6 曾做過愛滋篩檢。再加上男同志喜歡利用「助性藥物」，性愛過程不戴保險套，更是 AIDS 高危險群。
衛生單位呼籲預防 AIDS，應「全程戴保險套」、「避免共用針具」，可杜絕愛滋病感染風險。衛生署期望在 2015 年達到新增感染人數減半、感染者皆能獲得藥物治療等目標，並朝向世界衛生組織「愛滋零新增感染、零歧視、零相關死亡」的目標前進。但以台灣目前所呈現的數字，顯然還需要非常努力。
