現代人經常腰酸背痛,這裡痛、那裡痛的,不是下背痛,就是偏頭痛,疼痛的問題困擾著許多人,也因此很多人總是止痛藥不離身。
但是也有人很能忍,為了擔心止痛藥物對健康造成傷害,即使很痛了,還是不願意吃止痛藥。根據刊登在 Sleep《睡眠期刊》上、由美國所做的研究表示,每天晚上多睡一點,除了可以改善白天的警覺性、比較有元氣之外,多睡覺還可以提升忍受疼痛的能力。
美國紐約的北岸長島猶太睡眠障礙中心醫療主任 Harley 表示,他們找了 18 名年齡介於 21~35 歲,且沒有任何疼痛狀況的健康參與者,其中 9 名參與者晚上睡 10 個小時,連續 4 個晚上;而另外 9 名參與者則維持他們平常的作息時間。
Harley 主任近一步說明,研究人員測量參與者的手指接近熱源的時間長短,透過這樣來測量可以忍受的疼痛程度,經過 4 天之後,延長睡眠組比維持睡眠組可以忍受疼痛的時間增加了 25%。增加忍受疼痛程度的 25% 這樣的情況,就之前的研究指出,這等於每天服用 2 次 60 毫克劑量的止痛藥的效果。
不過, Harley 主任表示,雖然延長睡眠時間組的手指所能夠忍受熱源的時間比較長,但這是否適用於慢性疼痛症候群的患者,還需要更進一步的研究。
底特律亨利福特醫院的 Thomas Roth 博士表示,這個研究結果可能可以適用於所有類型的疼痛,包括慢性下背痛或是其他疼痛的疾病。下一步則是要觀察正準備要進行手術的人,才能了解處理潛在的睡眠問題是不是會影響疼痛的敏感性、以及所需要的止痛劑的藥量。
至於要睡多久的時間,才能幫助改善疼痛狀況,目前還不是很清楚。 Thomas Roth 博士發現,睡眠時間太少與疼痛二者都會增加發炎的標誌,但是多睡覺的確有助於減少這種炎症的狀況,在白天精神也會比較好。
另外,睡眠不夠的人如果可以睡比較長的時間,是可以減少疼痛的敏感性。
